EDA Academy Faculty

Peer-to-peer training is the core of the EDA learning journey. The EDA Academy faculty members welcome you and your team in their OR for a thorough in depth learning experience. It is the aim of the EDA Academy to accommodate to as many surgical teams as possible. Therefore, it is possible to visit multiple surgeons or to visit one hospital for multiple days.

All EDA Academy faculty members are very experienced surgeons who are dedicated to peer-to-peer training focusing on the surgical technique. This community of EDA surgeons focusses on efficiency of care with optimized quality and ergonomics. The focus is on the surgical team, the surgical technique and not on the implants used. This incentive differentiates the EDA Academy from most industry driven training programs: we only focus on surgical technique, the team workflow and the efficient OR set-up.

This initiative was started by Prof. Dr. Kristoff Corten who specialized in muscle sparing preservative and replacement hip surgery. Prof. Corten and the other team members have successfully trained and welcomed numerous teams over the years. The faculty members have given numerous presentations on international meetings such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the International Congress for Joint Replacement (ICJR).

The following EDA Faculty members can be visited to enhance your learning journey experience:

  • Prof. Dr. Kristoff Corten, Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg, Genk, Belgium
  • Dr. Christophe Olyslaegers, GZA Hospitals, Antwerp, Belgium
  • Mr Paul McKenna, UPMC Whitfield Clinic, Waterford, Ireland
Prof Dr Kristoff Corten

Prof Dr Kristoff Corten

Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg, Genk, Belgium

Prof. Dr. Kristoff Corten has developed the Efficient Direct Anterior (EDA) hip procedure over the past years in collaboration with the Efficient SurgerY (ESY) Solution of MedEnvision. Within his PhD-project, he has conducted extensive research work on optimizing the capsular releasing sequence of the Direct Anterior Approach. Along with his surgical team he optimized the efficiency of his OR workflow, which resulted in the EDA hip procedure. He has (co-) authored over 54 scientific publications and textbook chapters. Recently Professor Corten received the 2020 BJJ Award for Translational research for his research project on capsular preservation in the EDA hip procedure. He is an invited speaker in the most internationally renowned scientific meetings such as ICJR and AAOS. In our ‘Online EDA Tutorial’, Professor Corten will guide you and your team towards a successful understanding and implementation of the fundamentals of the ESY Solution and the EDA hip.

Dr Christophe Olyslaegers

Dr Christophe Olyslaegers

GZA Hospitals, Antwerp, Belgium

Mr. Christophe Olyslaegers is a fellowship trained Orthopaedic Hip Surgeon working at the GZA Hospitals Antwerp, Belgium.

As a result of a continuous interest in improving his hip replacement practice, he adopted the Efficient Direct Anterior (EDA) approach in 2014. His surgical team receives visitors interested in this muscle sparing approach on a regular basis, teaching them surgical finesse and efficiency in order to achieve best possible clinical outcomes. Before starting his own practice he was appointed as co-designer and lead surgeon of a newly developed and dedicated hip and knee joint replacement unit at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, UK. During its first year, it’s clinical pathway was accredited with several awards and the unit became a clinical centre of excellence. He is a regular lecturer and invited speaker on international scientific meetings and instructional courses. Besides his clinical work, he is actively involved in management work at the hospital as a member of the medical board.

With the EDA-Academy team, we would be honoured to take you and your team through the Efficient Surgery (ESY)-Concept step by step!
